In doing research for this project, one the most surprising facts was that Artificial Fluoride (hydrofluosilicic acid), when drank does not actually prevent dental caries. We interviewed many doctors and dentists. What we found was that pro-fluoride medical professionals had not really looked into the bio-medical data: and were relying on historical statements from government. When we approached government bodies, we were not provided with any clinical or PhD reviewed report. We continue to request that evidence be provided.

1. Lack of Efficacy/Lack of Dental Carrie Prevention in Children
In 1966, the City of Edmonton passed a bylaw by plebiscite: intended to add artificial fluoride for the protection against children’s dental caries.
Yet, evidence shows that dental caries are NOT prevented by *drinking* artificial fluoride (hydrofluosilicic acid).
Scientific studies show that the efficacy (preventing against dental caries in children) of City of Edmonton tap water containing artificial fluoride is NULL.
Currently the additive is .7mg/liter in the City of Edmonton by EPCOR. (reduced from the amount of 1 mg/liter). Many cities artificially fluoridate in amounts much higher than 1 mg/litre.
At the level of .7mg/liter, there exist many studies which support a lack of efficacy, or ability to support the intended result of reduced dental caries. The PhD peer reviewed studies to the right are samples of studies evidencing that Dental Caries have not increased after Fluoridation Stopped.
The City of Edmonton and EPCOR currently hold the position that they artificially fluoride Edmonton’s city water to reach levels of .7 mg/litre due to a 1966 City of Edmonton plebiscite where it was intended to fluoridate to help marginalized persons in Edmonton. While this was good intentions, the evidence does not support that artificial fluoride prevents dental caries when drank or absorbed by the skin when bathing.
The City of Edmonton and EPCOR state they continue to do so because dentists and dental associations, and Alberta Health, Health Canda, and Environment Canada support that dental caries are reduced due to artificial fluoride additives to water. These statements are NOT correct and are misleading. These organizations do not evaluate the long term EFFICACY or SAFETY of the chemical additive.
Despite various repeated requests for clinical studies and evidence, no representative from the City of Edmonton, EPCOR, any dentist, or our dental association and college, have been able or willing to produce any clinical or peer reviewed study to support their view that dental caries are reduced.
We continue to welcome any evidence that can be forwarded to support the practice of adding the chemical by-product hydrofluosilicic acid.
This web site serves in part as a request of this evidence. Please provide the evidence herein.
Since evidence has not been provided to date form the City of Edmonton and EPCOR, we insist upon a moratorium to immediately stop the practice of adding hydrofluorosilicic acid to the city drinking water.
2. Lack of Necessity/Reduced Homeless in Edmonton
The City of Edmonton under Stephen Mandel has endeavored (and at this writing, almost succeeded) to reduce homeless people in the city of Edmonton.
According to the Homeward Housing Trust, there are less than 3,000 homeless people left in the city of Edmonton.
Who are the so-called marginalized people in Edmonton?
Do these marginalized people of Edmonton desire artificial fluoride in Edmonton’s city water?
Has anyone asked them?
3. Lack of Necessity/Other Sources of Fluoride
For those that choose to use artificial fluoride, there are other options including the use of fluoridated toothpaste and fluoride tablets.
Hydrofluosilicic acid is not a nutrient, and is not beneficial to the human body. Fluoride in natural form is also not a nutrient, and there is no need to add it to the human body for health reasons.
We have interviewed many doctors, naturopaths, and health practitioners. None see the need to sell artificial fluoride or natural fluoride tablets.
Why do you think that these practitioners do not sell fluoride tablets?
Why does the City of Edmonton need to mass distribute non-beneficial artificial fluoride in our water system?
4. Lack of Necessity/Unnecessary Cost of Artificial Fluoride to the City of Edmonton
According to Dr. Stephen Craik of EPCOR, the cost of purchasing artificial fluoride is $750,000 per annum.
It is unknown what the indirect costs of artificial fluoride is, including capital costs of building, and other indirect costs.
The artificial fluoride is purchased in the form of hydrofluosilicic acid from an industrial plant in Wyomming, USA. This plant, according to Dr. Stephen Craik, has never been personally inspected by EPCOR.
Why does the City of Edmonton need this annual expenditure, especially at a time when budget concerns are paramount?
What are the indirect costs of the artificial fluoride application? (capital cost of building, servicing, etc.)
What are the indirect costs to the province under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan?
5. Lack of Necessity/The hydrofluosilicic acid purchased by the City of Edmonton is a POISON (not a nutrient)
Please read the Material Safety Data Sheet needed to transport the toxic material
The City of Edmonton currently states that the dosage of .7 mg/litre is a small dosage, and that Health Canada states it is safe.
Why would we put any small amount of POISON be placed into our drinking water?
Why does the City of Edmonton wish to take RISKS with our health?
Why does the City of Edmonton wish to take RISKS with our children’s health?
Why does the City of Edmonton currently REFUSE to look at the EVIDENCE?
Is any amount of risk acceptable to children, pets, eldery, and to those with various illnesses?
Artificial Fluoride (hydrofluorosilicic acid) is a POISON:

To THE CITY OF EDMONTON and CITY COUNCIL & MAYOR, PLEASE IMMEDIATELY STOP BY MORATORIUM ALL WATER FLUORIDATION (hydrofluosilicic acid) to EDMONTON'S DRINKING TAP WATER. The practice is not necessary, is not effective, is not safe, and is not medically ethical. I do NOT provide my informed consent to water fluoridation: not in any form and not in any amount.
